Smith Society’s opportunities and events expand academic experiences and build a sense of community. Activities are supported by donors who believe in the great potential of our students

Scholastic Opportunities

• Undergraduate scholarships for all eligible Smith students

Mentorships that connect students with personal advocates, often current or retired faculty or staff members, alumni, or community partners

• The Smith Society’s Research Fellowships offer opportunities to receive funding for research with a faculty sponsor. All majors may apply. To learn more visit the Fellowship information sheet and Research Fellowship application.

Connections with professionals beyond the university who help students understand the ways educational and career goals work together

• Students can choose their own Work-Study job at any non-profit organization

• Internships at area non-profits offering significant career experience

Stipends for work in planning events aimed at fostering community, creating career interest groups, and encouraging others to pursue their education

• Help in navigating roadblocks to education with individualized support and advocacy.

• Assistance in accessing financial aid, scholarships, and other campus resources

• Priority enrollment in classes through membership in the Renaissance Scholars Program

• Weekly campus luncheons where students, mentors, and others socialize and make connections

• Orientation/Welcome reception each fall that celebrates the beginning of the school term and the arrival of new Smith students

• Graduation celebration each spring that honors those who have earned their degrees

• Annual Holiday Party before the winter break

• Study breaks, get-togethers, special events, workshops

• Bringing high school students in foster youth programs to campus so they can meet university students from similar backgrounds

Is a research fellowship right for you?

Smith Society Research Fellowships are an opportunity to expand your mind and your college experience by working alongside a faculty member on research projects. Funding is available for work in any major. Recipients are awarded $1,000 for one quarter of research. Learn more:
