The Smith Society is a volunteer-driven organization. Volunteers contribute their ideas, energy and skills to furthering the support we offer students. Let us know if you see a way you can bring your particular talents to our mission. Among ways to become involved are as career advocates and program partners.
Career advocates
• Share expertise in specific fields—including medicine, law, finance, business, technology, education, social services, and the performing and visual arts.
• Spend a day with a student in your workplace, an eye-opening opportunity for all and often an inspiration
• Establish an internship in a career field or connect us with existing ones
• Provide informal academic and career guidance
• Partner with students to create small interest groups centered on focused discussion of a topic or career
Project partners
• Help with special events in the spring, fall, and over winter break. For most activities, assistance is welcome with organizing, shopping, set-up, sign-ins, and clean-up
• Lend administrative skills to ensure we are able to respond quickly to student needs
• Help students navigate specific issues, such as finding stable housing
• Help with communications and outreach to connects students with our programs and programs with volunteers and donors
• Help with fundraising efforts to ensure we have the resources needed to support scholarships and programs
